Aftercare

General
After having any piercing, customers are welcome to return at any time for additional consultations and aftercare until the piercing has fully healed and is ready for jewellery changing. We will then change your jewellery for you, showing you the correct procedure for removing and re-placing jewellery, all as part of our free aftercare service.

Care Of New Piercings
Always wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning a new piercing.

Wash around the piercing site using solutions recommended by your body piercer, two or three times a day.

Do not pull, push, twist or move your new jewellery at all during the healing period. Jewellery may be moved during cleaning to get at hidden areas.

Should you have any concerns during healing return to your piercer as soon as possible.

Care Of Established Piercings
Healed piercings do not require a great deal of care, other than normal cleaning during washing and bathing.

However, jewellery should be removed regularly for cleaning. In the case of Stainless Steel jewellery, we recommend removal for cleaning at approx. 3 month intervals, titanium at 6 month intervals, Gold at 2-3 month intervals.

If you have not previously removed your jewellery and are unsure about doing so, then consult your body piercer.

Information and Advice

New body jewellery is not sterile, unless supplied in a sealed airtight package, marked as 'Sterile'. If you have purchased Jewellery intending to be pierced with it, ensure that it is clinically sterilised before being inserted.
If your new jewellery is for an established piercing then it should be thoroughly cleaned and left to stand in sterilisation fluid, then all traces of the fluid should be rinsed off with clean water before being inserted, any doubts - consult your piercer.

European Union Directive No 94/27EC

The latest European Directive relating to Body Piercing became law in the U.K. on 20th July 2001.

This directive states that initial body piercing should not be performed using
Grade 316L Stainless Steel or any other material containing more than 0.05% Nickel.

Additionally these materials should not be worn during the healing period (epithelization).

This is not only to protect the people (approx. 5%) who have an allergy to Nickel, but  also to prevent Sensitisation, where an allergy is developed during the healing period.

The best material for an initial piercing is Medical Implant Grade Titanium. we have a selection of jewellery in Low-Nickel Stainless Steel which is fine for initial piercing and Low-Nickel gold which is also fine.
